Object Summary
Photo albums are vital in many households, safeguarding family histories through photographs and memorabilia. They document personal milestones and reflect societal values, underscoring family ties and community identity.
Carol Heidschuster’s album and postcards belonged to her late father, John Norman Goulsbra, affectionately known as “Norman.” He was the eldest of three children, born on 20 October 1928 in Great Carlton, Louth. His parents were John William Goulsbra and Ruby Hedison.
Influenced by agricultural work, Norman moved frequently during his childhood in Lincolnshire Wolds, residing in Manby, Oxcombe, and Worlaby before spending time in Stewton. In the early 1950s, he settled on Hoop Lane near Wragby, living with his Aunt Edith and her children, where he met Carol’s mother. The postcards and album serve as treasured keepsakes, connecting Norman’s early years with his later life and reflecting their cultural and familial context in mid-20th-century rural England.
