Summary
A tranquil landscape depicting a river along a rural landscape. A late Meiji Japanese embroidery painting using the ‘Yuzen Birodo’ technique. Made by cutting loops in a pile weave structure. The textile is a representation of the opening of Japanese culture to the west. They had adapted velveting in the West to suit their style and culture.
