Object Summary

The banner is painted with Sir Harry Smith’s coat of arms and has an adhered poster with the names of battles he fought in. Sir Harry Smith was a soldier of the British Army and lieutenant-general who fought in many battles across the world such as the Peninsula war (1807-1814), the Battle of Waterloo in 1815, and most famously the Battle of Aliwal whereby he led the British troops to victory against the Sikh army. The battle took place on January 28, 1846, in the small village of Aliwal, near the Sutlej River.
