Object Summary

The Antelope skull was believed to have been brought back to Burton Constable Hall by Radleigh Charles Joseph Chichester-Constable of Burton Hall who visited India as part of a 5-month long cricket tour of India between 1926 and 1927. The object presented to me having suffered from a fall. The left antler and a portion of the skull had been broken from the main body, and the skull knocked loose from the plaque. The treatment of the antelope skull included tests such as lead testing on the paint, solvent testing and magnetism tests in order to identify the metal screws and fittings. The skull had a significant build-up of surface dirt and soot that was removed using deionised water on a swab followed by acetone to evaporate the moisture. 3D scanning technology was used to digitally reconstruct the skull for the purpose of documentation, understanding of the object and the development of a further skill.
