Summary
I discovered conservation when I was doing my A-levels and struggling to decide on what I wanted to do at university. I stumbled upon this course after googling ‘weirdest degrees’, and it instantly attracted me. I had very little conservation experience going into the course, however, I have loved every moment of learning in the past three years. I have the most experience in working with textiles, but in completing this degree I have developed a love for ceramics and taxidermy. While I love the practical work of conservation, learning the history of an object and researching manufacturing techniques has been highly enjoyable. My favourite object that I have worked on so far has been the gilded frame, working as a group on one object was a really fun learning experience.
Career Aspirations
When I started this course, I had no idea what I was going to do afterwards, and to some extent I still don’t. I love conservation, especially the practical work. However, I’m still not sure what I’m going to do with my career moving forward.
