Summary

I chose heritage conservation because I have a strong passion for art, history, and science. This course combines these three subjects, allowing me to explore their connections. It also covers a variety of materials, helping me discover which one’s interest me most while gaining a deeper understanding of different conservation techniques. I first discovered conservation through social media and was immediately drawn to it. I love that every object is unique and carries its own story. The idea of preserving these stories by cleaning, repairing, and conserving objects fascinates me, as it ensures they are not lost over time. I particularly enjoy working with paper, especially bookbinding, but my favourite aspect is colour matching. Overall, my experience in conservation has been incredibly rewarding. I loved working with my classmates, sharing our passion for objects, and handling a variety of materials.

Career Aspirations

After graduation, I plan to work in conservation, ideally in an art studio, as I want to specialise in working with paper and colour matching at a professional level. In the future, I hope to focus on art conservation, as this area interests me the most. However, before pursuing a master’s degree in painting conservation, I would like to gain hands-on experience in the field.

Other Projects

I completed a three-month placement at Solange Studio, where I worked on commercial conservation projects, including posters, paintings, and various paper repair tasks. Additionally, I undertook a three-month placement at the Nottinghamshire Archives, where I gained experience in bookbinding, produced a collection of new books, and contributed to the preservation of existing ones.
